UN: Special Rapporteur on independence of judges and lawyers calls for contributions

Summary: The UN Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers is inviting stakeholders to share information on the practices of human rights education and continuing training of judges, prosecutors, public defenders and lawyers.

In accordance with paragraph 3 of Human Rights Council resolution 15/3, the Special Rapporteur on the independence of judges and lawyers is requested "[t]o carry out... a global thematic study to assess the human rights education and continuing training of judges, prosecutors, public defenders and lawyers, with recommendations for appropriate follow-up, and to present it to the Council at its twentieth session".

Importance of children's rights contributions

Child rights advocates have an important opportunity to contribute to the work of the Special Rapporteur by highlighting the need for child-sensitive procedures, and to ensure that children's rights are placed at the forefront of the agenda.
