UN: Expert meeting on children living and / or working on the street

Summary: Following on from this year's Annual Day on the Rights of the Child, which focused on children living and / or working on the street, an expert meeting, organised by the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), took place in Geneva from 1 - 2 November.

A broad range of organisations contributed to discussions on a number of themes as part of the consultation process:

  • Putting children at the center: main challenges for children in street situations
  • Framework of Child Protection Systems: Roles and responsibilities in the promotion and protection of children in street situations
  • Good practices and lessons learned to promote and protect the rights of children living and working on the streets
  • Collecting and using data to promote and protect the rights of the child

What happens next?

The Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR) is currently compiling a report, further to the consultation meeting, and will present their final report to the Human Rights Council.
