UGANDA: Launch of campaign against child sacrifice

Child rights NGO, Action for Children and the Uganda Parliamentary Forum for Children are set to launch a campaign against child sacrifice in Uganda.

The two bodies say they will work with other non government organisations like Uganda Red Cross and Uganda Commission for Children to undertake awareness campaigns against child sacrifice from 18 June.

The Chairp of the Forum Rose Namayanja said the aim of the campaign is to try and push the government to come up with policies and laws that regulate the activities and conduct of traditional health practitioners.

Namayanja said that child sacrifice cases are gowing, and that they have a duty to respond.

The Minister for Primary Health, James Kakooza said Parliament had passed a resolution requiring that the Ministry of Health issue a bill on child sacrifice as soon as possible.

He said such a bill should regulate traditional healers, and that current laws on child sacrifice were outdated.
