SWITZERLAND: World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse ­19 November

Summary: More than 480 organisations from over 90
countries joined WWSF to mark the World Day
for Prevention of Child Abuse on 19 November
in 2004 with activities and events.

On the occasion of the 2004 World Day for Prevention of Child Abuse,
WWSF awarded the Prize Betty Makoni for innovative prevention activities
to four organisations - see WWSF website www.woman.ch/children/2-
laureates.asp

- 1st Laureate (US$ 3000): Women Action Coalition Child Abuse - Nigeria
- 2nd Laureate (US$ 1000): Pakistan Council for Social Welfare & Human
Rights
- Two additional awards (US$ 500 each): Committee for Prevention of Child
Abuse of East Asia, China and Vienna Network for Prevention of Sexual
Abuse against Girls, Boys and Youth, Austria.

The day was celebrated by an international coalition of organisations - to
see the list, visit: www.woman.ch. A global impact report 2004 is in
preparation. Organisations that wish to join the 2005 coalition to mark the
World Day and take part in the next year Prize are invited to apply for
membership (or renew their membership) by contacting WWSF by 1 June
2005. Member organisations' names will then be printed on the global
poster 2005 and published on the Internet.

WWSF, an international, non-profit, non-confessional empowerment NGO
(UN consultative status ECOSOC, UNFPA and DPI) serves to help implement
women’s and children’s rights and the UN Millennium Development Goals
MDGs.
