Report on CRIN's legal advocacy workshop in Ukraine

Child Rights International Network (CRIN) on May 14-15 held a workshop on legal advocacy in Kiev, Ukraine. Workshop "Challenging violations of children's rights through the legal advocacy" was jointly organised by the Women's Consortium of Ukraine and the informal Coalition for Children's Rights in Ukraine. This is the fourth workshop on legal advocacy, organised by CRIN, and the first such workshop in Eastern Europe and Central Asia.

The overall objective of the workshop is planning strategies - including strategic litigation - in order to bring national legislation in line with international standards on children's rights. The two-day program of the workshop consisted of plenary meetings and thematic working groups to exchange experiences and to develop advocacy plans.

At the workshop in Kiev four issues were discussed in detail: violence against children; children in conflict with the law; children with disabilities; discrimination against certain groups of children. At the end of the workshop, participants developed detailed plans for advocacy.
