Press Statement from a Child Delegate at the South Asia Consultation

Summary: Press Statement by Ugen Lhazin, Female
Delegate from Bhutan from the Regional
Consultation with Children and Young People
on the UN Study on Violence Against Children,
South Asia, 19th-20th May 2005, Islamabad.

"Good afternoon. My name is Ugen Lhazin and I’m also a child participant
representing the children of South Asia.

The present and the future of our countries lies in our hands and ours now
and tomorrow lies in yours.

Children are facing violence everyday, everywhere and in every country.
So we have made many recommendations to the government but the most
important onw is that we would like to urge all the governments to have
laws to protect their children, and for those who already have laws, we
urge them to be implemented and monitored.

If the government can do this one thing now, there would be no violence
any day, anywhere in any country. So help us to wipe away the tears and
end violence against children now.

Thank you. "
