Summary: Blue Veins reports on the story of Fauzia, who
was burnt alive by her husband because she
could not provide him with enough money.
Fauzia (age 30) was a schoolteacher before her marriage. After her
wedding, she sold all her possessions for her husband's needs. Her house,
the sole property of the family, was also mortgaged. One of her brother
serves in a shop for 3000 rupees per month, the other earns even less.
Her mother is old and ill. Fauzia's husband demanded rupees two lacs from
her brothers on the pretext that they had suggested he go to Honk Kong
in search of a job.
He could not get a job there and came back. He demanded money from
Fauzia's brothers for their wrong suggestion. A few days before the
accident, Fauzia's brother agreed to pay the money to save her sister's
family life. But the husband was not satisfied and burnt her alive.
Fauzia was a beautiful, polite, obedient, tolerant and patient woman. What
else is required to satisfy a husband? What can be a woman's response to
such issues? How many pakistani wives live like Fauzia? Can we leave
them to be burnt like Fauzia?
