Maternal warmth does not prevent negative outcomes from spanking

Summary: Research published with Psychnet American Psychological Association conducted by E. Gershoff, and colleagues shows that the cultural myth that maternal warmth can prevent the risk of increased aggression in children who are spanked is not the case.

A study of over 3,000 families shows that maternal warmth is not enough to prevent negative outcomes.
