London Play Salutes Wales

Summary:

London Play congratulates the Welsh Assembly on launching its Play policy implementation plan which, as a UK first, will place a legal obligation on local authorities to provide for children’s play. In the recent past,  Wales also led the way when it appointed the first Children’s Commissioner, which was then followed by the other UK nations.

Dr Ute Navidi, London Play’s director, said: “Wales is setting trends again. The fact that Welsh local authorities will now be able to plan for and devote resources to play for children and young people is a huge step forward. We can only watch jealously as we continue to struggle to ensure that the importance of play becomes embedded in local authorities’ Children and Young People’s Plans across the capital. London Play congratulates Play Wales for having the vision, passion and determination to convince politicians that all children need to play and have a right to play, and to tackle the roots of play deprivation that blights so many children’s lives today.”
