Learning Disability Today London takes place on 23 November, at its usual venue, the Business Design Centre Islington, North London. A portfolio of nationally focused learning disability organisations are sponsoring the event, including: Brookdale, CareTech, Home Farm Trust, Robinia, Turning Point, Valuing People Support Team, plus the SocietyGuardian, the event media sponsor. Last year some 3,000 people visited the exhibition and attended the seminars. Just under half worked in the voluntary sector, with the rest spread across the statutory health and social care services and the independent sector. This year, early bird registrations are already well head of last year's figures, as are booking from exhibitors. Over 90 organisations will be exhibiting, including MENCAP, Downs Syndrome Association, Surrey County Council, RNID, the Foundation for People with Learning Disabilities and the National Epilepsy Society. Three exciting additions this year are the Media Zone, where you can find out how individuals with a learning disability can get involved with the media; the Job Zone, where small organisations will be on hand to offer advice to people with a learning disability who are seeking employment or need support within their current job, and a Computer Fun Zone displaying the latest technological developments and innovations available to learning disability professionals. As usual, Learning Disability Today London includes a packed seminar programme, free to visitors on a first-come-first served basis. You can choose from 12 different sessions: * Making sure everyone is included - supporting people with complex needs * Living with a Dual Diagnosis * Employment - starting your own business * Families working as partners, nationally and individually * Operating to full capacity - the implications of the Mental Capacity Act * Delivering person-centred approaches * Employment - local authorities as employers * Older people and learning disability * Empowering people through advocacy * Employment - best practice in supporting people with a learning disability into employment * Culturally flexible services Each features a number of speaker's experts in that field drawn from across the learning disability spectrum - from the statutory, voluntary and independent sectors. Finally, there will be a lunchtime panel debate, chaired by David Brindle, Public Services Editor at the Guardian, and Liam Bryne, Parliamentary Under Secretary of State for Care Services, will deliver the keynote address.
