Attorney General on the 15th September 2004, which seeks to consolidate
laws on sexual offences, by amending or repealing those in existence,
bridge legal loopholes, provide new laws for new sexual offences and
minimum sentences, to deal with the current trends on sexual offences in
the country. He promised that special units would be set up in the office of
the Director of Public Prosecutions to handle specific crimes, ostensibly one
to handle sexual offences that have seen an escalation of cases. He
recognised the need for the Sexual Offences Bill given the increasing
sophistication of sex crimes.
