GLOBAL: Campaign on Universal Birth Registration

Summary: New York launch of Plan International's
universal birth registration campaign with
guest of honour Archbishop Desmond Tutu.
Governments worldwide are failing the world’s children warns international
development organisation, Plan, as the births of over 48 million children go
unregistered every year.

Archbishop Desmond Tutu will be launching Plan’s global campaign on
Universal Birth Registration at the UN headquarters in New York on 22
February 2005, 10:00 – 12:30.

Children without a birth certificate can find it almost impossible to prove
their existence. They are far more likely to grow up without access to
education, health care, civil rights or proper protection.
