Summary: On 27 May, the Committee on the Rights of the Child opened its 63rd session and elected a new Chairperson.
States under review During the session, twelve reports will be examined: Elections The Committee elected Kirsten Sandberg of Norway as its new Chairperson and appointed Aseil Al-Shehail of Saudi Arabia, Benyam Dawit Mezmur of Ethiopia, Sara De Jesús Oviedo Fierro of Ecuador and Hiranthi Wijimanne of Sri Lanka as Vice-Chairpersons. In addition to examining States, the Committee will discuss its methods of work, including the format and content of Concluding Observations; the strengthening of treaty bodies; and it will also work on a draft joint General Comment on harmful practices with the Committee on the Elimination of Discrimination against Women.
