Summary: IBCR's latest Annual Report covers activities
and results between April 1st 2004 and March
31st 2005. The report details a full and active
year at IBCR, during which IBCR celebrated its
tenth anniversary. It highlights the important
advancements made in securing the rights of
children worldwide through the
implementation of the CRC.
Significant actions taken in 2004-2005 include:
The preliminary study on child trafficking in Canada at the request
of the Canadian Department of Justice.
The adoption of resolution 2004/27 by the United Nations
Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) to convene an intergovernmental
expert group to develop guidelines in matters involving child victims and
witnesses of crime – based on the guidelines initially drafted by IBCR. It
should be noted that the new UN Guidelines on Matters Involving Child
Victims and Witnesses of Crime have since been adopted both by the
United Nations Commission on Crime Prevention and Criminal Justice (May
2005) and ECOSOC (July 2005).
The Conference Making Children’s Rights Work: National and
International Perspectives, which brought together key players in the
field of children’s rights from Canada and abroad and was held in Montreal
in November of 2004 to celebrate the fifteenth anniversary of the
Convention CRC.
Significant progress in the collection and analysis of information on the
status of realisation of children’s rights in countries that have ratified the
CRC.
