Consultation
on Children in CEE/CIS & Baltics
region. The Bucharest consultations
will provide NGOs with an
opportunity
to analyze the situation of children in
the 27 countries in transition and to
speak with one voice regarding the
priorities and key challenges for the
coming decade.
Regional NGO Consultation, 8-10 April (Bucharest) : This
Consultation on Children in the CEE/CIS & Baltics region is being
organized by the regional NGO-UNICEF Committee, the Regional
NGO Working Group on the Global Movement for Children and
UNICEF. The Romanian Federation of NGOs Active in Child
Protection (FONPC) will co-host and provide overall coordination.
The Bucharest consultation - the first ever to bring together the
region's civil society organizations working for children's rights -
will provide NGOs with an opportunity to analyze the situation of
children in the 27 countries in transition and to speak with one
voice regarding the priorities and key challenges for the coming
decade. The Consultation will assess progress made over the
past decade, identify major trends and new problems affecting
children, and promote opportunities for NGO capacity-building,
information-sharing and cooperation over the next decade. It is
expected that the consultation will strengthen regional, sub-
regional and national NGO networks and coalitions in the GMC
context.
The main outcome of the Consultation will be an advocacy paper
reflecting the views and action proposals of NGOs for the next 10-
15 years. This document will reflect the outcomes of national
consultations and the latest thinking regarding the rights of
children in the region. It will be presented to the Berlin inter-
governmental conference and feed into the UN Special Session
through the Secretary-General's report.
The Bucharest consultation is being organized with the support of
the Romanian government.Owner: Regional NGO-UNICEF Committee, the Regional NGO Working Group on the Global Movement for Children and UNICEFAssociation: Romanian Federation of NGOs Active in Child Protection (FONPC)
