Juvenile justice: Policing and children

This national conference on policing and children will look at the role of the police in keeping children out of the penal system, interactions between children and the police and children’s rights and participation .

Conference structure

Plenary sessions will be followed by questions and debate. There will also be a choice of workshops which will explore:
  • engagement with Police and Crime Commissioners (including a presentation of a U R Boss film made by young people about their experiences of the police)
  • the overnight detention of children in police custody
  • the use of community resolutions in policing
  • the criminalisation and policing of sexually exploited girls
  • relationships between the police and young people.

Practitioners and policy makers at all levels including youth offending teams, children’s services, police, voluntary sector agencies, independent advocates, appropriate adults, academics, lawyers and sentencers.
