Summary: This conference in Brussels is part of
EURONET campaign to promote the
participation of children and young
people (under 18) in discussions on
the Future of Europe. EURONET, with
the support of the European
Commission has been working with
children and young people from 11
EU member and candidate states in
national consultations.
The Conference Children and the Future of Europe will hear the
voice of these children. On Thursday 3 April 2003 young
delegates from these 11 countries will present the results of their
national consultations and their collective messages to European
policy makers.
This public meeting will start at 09.00 o’clock Thursday 3 April,
2003 at La Maison de l’Europe - Bibliothèque Solvay (Parc
Leopold, Rue Belliard 137 – B 1040) and will carry on until 17.00
o'clock. Young delegates will work together with representatives
of the European Convention, the EU presidencies, Members of
the EU Parliament, EU Commission officials and NGOs through a
series of intergenerational dialogues / sessions around different
topics relating to the rights of children in the European Union.
At the end of the Conference on Thursday 3 April, a delegation of
under-18s will meet with Mr. Klaus Hänsch, a German Member of
the EU Parliament and of the Praesidium of the Convention on
the Future of Europe..
This conference belongs to the children! The programme attached
is only a draft. The day before the conference, on Wednesday 2
April, all the young delegates will be involved in a Children’s
Preparatory Conference in a central hotel in Brussels. This will
help them to prepare for their participation in the main
conference. They will all work together and decide what are their
collective key messages and how they want to present these to
the main conference the 3 April.
Commissioner Margot Wallström and Convention vice-president
Jean-Luc Dehane have confirmed that they will give keynote
addresses at this meeting.
