Located at the southern tip of the African continent, South Africa is known for its diversity, including for its 11 official languages. Following the end of the notorious racist apartheid system in 1994, the State has become a superpower within the region. Human rights violations include violence and sexual violence towards women and girls, corporal punishment in the home, and harmful traditional practices relating to children.
