UN: Special Rapporteur's report focuses on child slavery in the artisanal mining and quarrying sector

Summary: The Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences, Gulnara Shahinian, has focused her 2011 report to the Human Rights Council on child slavery in the artisanal mining and quarrying sector.

The Special Rapporteur's  2011 report to the Human Rights Council focuses on child slavery in the mining and quarrying sector. In her report, the Special Rapporteur assesses:

  • The root causes, manifestations and aggravating factors that lead to child slavery
  • The nature and impact of child slavery on the enjoyment of children's rights
  • Challenges in the prevention of child slavery
  • Good practices in eradicating child slavery
  • Key strategies in tackling child slavery

Presentation at the 18th Session

    The report will be presented during the 18th session of the Human Rights Council, scheduled to take place in Geneva from 12 - 30 September this year.
