UN: Mainstreaming Disability in the Development Agenda

The present note is prepared pursuant to Economic and Social Council resolution 2006/18, in which the Council decided to include the item entitled “Emerging issues” in the programme of work of the Commission for Social Development. The Bureau of the Commission, after consultation with its regional groups, decided that the topic for discussion under “Emerging issues” (agenda item 3 (c)) would be “Mainstreaming disability in the development agenda”. This note has been prepared by the Secretariat to facilitate the discussion. It provides an overview of the background, practicalities and resources related to mainstreaming disability in the development agenda in the context of the recent adoption of the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities.
