Children's Ombudspersons

The Tanzanian Commission for Human Rights and Good Governance has a Special Desk for Children's Affairs which has undertaken investigations into complaints relating to children and youth, including through prison visits. In its 2005 Concluding Observations, however, the Committee on the Rights of the Child expressed concern about the accessibility and availability of the Commission to children and about the level of human and financial resources allocated to the body. Accordingly, the Committee recommended that the State conduct awareness-raising campaigns about the work of the Commission, including the Special desk for Children's Affairs, to facilitate greater access to the complaints mechanism.
