The State of Pakistan's Children 2000

Summary: This book introduces the state of
children in Pakistan, looking at
key areas such as health, education,
child labour, child rights, birth
registration, child sexual abuse,
juvenile justice and media.

It lobbies for governments to match
their promises with actions
and child-focused legislation and
budgetary allocation.

There is very little material on child rights in Pakistan. UNICEF is
the lead agency doing research in this sector but most of the
material written and disseminated by this organisation covers the
general state of world’s children and does not go into detail on
the situation of children in Pakistan.

It is to fill this gap that SPARC in late 1996 came up with the idea
of an annual report on the state of Pakistan’s children. The
difficulties encountered in finding authentic material were not
anticipated. As for the material available with the Government,
the less said the better.
