SPECIAL PROCEDURES: Twenty three mandate-holder appointments set for 2014

Summary: In 2014, 23 Special Procedure mandate-holder appointments will be made. Find out which ones and how to participate in the nomination process.

During the course of 2014 the Council will make 23 appointments of special procedures mandate-holders and two appointments of EMRIP experts who are selected and appointed in the same way as special procedures mandate holders.

The appointments will be made at the following sessions:

HRC 25th session  (3-28 March 2014)

  • Expert Mechanism on the rights of indigenous peoples – Asian Group member
  • Expert Mechanism on the rights of indigenous peoples – WEOG member
  • Independent expert on the effects of foreign debt and other related international financial obligations of States on the full enjoyment of human rights, particularly economic, social and cultural rights
  • Independent expert on the question of human rights and extreme poverty
  • Independent Expert on the situation of human rights in Somalia
  • Special Rapporteur on adequate housing as a component of the right to an adequate standard of living
  • Special Rapporteur on contemporary forms of slavery, including its causes and consequences
  • Special Rapporteur on the right to food
  • Special Rapporteur on the sale of children, child prostitution and child pornography
  • Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights and fundamental freedoms of indigenous peoples
  • Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in Myanmar
  • Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian territories occupied since 1967
  • Special Rapporteur on the situation on human rights defenders
  • Working Group on Arbitrary Detention – African Group member
  • Working Group on Arbitrary Detention – GRULAC member
  • Working Group on Enforced Disappearances – African Group member
