The Situation of Children in Institutions of Social Care in Serbia

Summary: This report presents the results of
extensive research undertaken into
the situation of children in social care
institutions in Serbia.
Institutions for children and youth without parental care.

The accommodation of children without parental care in
institutions of social care is one of the basic modes of providing
for these children in Serbia. According to the latest data, there
are about 2,000 children living in 17 institutions for children
without parental care.

At present, Serbia has about 5,000 children who are
accommodated with families of their closest relatives, foster
families or homes for children and youth without parental care.
