SINGAPORE: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Singapore that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

While children in Singapore can file complaints with the appropriate sectoral authority, there is no independent mechanism to regularly monitor the implementation of children's rights under the Convention on the Rights of the Child. In its 2011 recommendations, the Committee on the Rights of the Child urged the State to establish an independent mechanism in accordance with the Paris Principles with a clear mandate “to receive and investigate complaints from, or on behalf of, children regarding all areas of covered by the Convention”.
