Resolution on the Rights of the Child at the UN General Assembly 2006

Summary: This is the omnibus Resolution adopted at the 61st session of the UN General Assembly on 22 November 2006.

The Resolution is divided into the following sections:

  • I Implementation of the Convention on the Rights of the Child and the Optional Protocols thereto (Paragraphs 1 - 6)
  • II Promotion and Protection of the Rights of the Child

     - Registration, family relations and adoption or other forms of alternative care (P. 7 - 11)

     - Economic and social well-being of children (P. 12)

     - Violence Against Children (P. 13 - 19)

     - Non-discrimination (P. 20 - 23)

     - Promoting and protecting the rights of children, including children in particularly
difficult situations (P. 24 - 33)

     - Prevention and eradication of the sale of children, child prostitution and
child pornography (P. 34)

    - Children affected by armed conflict (P. 35 - 41)

  • III Children and Poverty (P. 42 - 52)
  • Follow up
