REPORT: Regional workshop on promoting children's resilience: a way to combat child sex abuse

The effects of child sexual abuse on children are many including physical and psycho-social effects. However, even though many survivors of childhood sexual abuse exhibit long-term negative consequences, they also manifest growth and resilience. The objective of the workshop was to discuss children’s development and resilience and share perspectives on strategies against child sexual abuse including methods, tools, good practices and challenges.

One outcome of the 4 day workshop was the development of action plans from each organisation of the participating countries. A main conclusion was that Save the Children will continue to advocate for strengthening national child protection systems linking community based child protection such as Child Protection Committees at all levels. The goal of this comprehensive system is to prevent and protect children from violence and sexual abuse and support their resilience. Children’s participation will be encouraged as part of this system.

This publication is a workshop report and since some time has evolved since the workshop many of the action points have already been implemented.
