QATAR: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Qatar that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The National Human Rights Committee (NHRC) was established in 2002 under Decree Law No. 38 of 2002 and, as of 2009, the Qatari State was considering establishing a children's rights unit within the organisation. The mandate of the NHRC includes monitoring the status of human rights in the country, examining infringements of those rights when they occur and following up on complaints about children's rights regarding issues that arise under the Act. The Committee on the Rights of the Child urged the State to develop the NHRC to ensure that it is accessible to and user-friendly for children, and that it can receive and investigate individual complaints on the violation of children's rights.
