Promising Practices - To Protect Children from Media Violence

Summary: This report, which is a submission to the UN Study on Violence Against Children, describes promising practices experienced by North American civil society to protect children from media violence and supports UNICEF Canada statement (Chapter XI of Consultation Document) considering media violence as an actual form of violence and abuse against children.

The UN Secretary General ordered an international Study on Violence against children. The report did not pay attention to one of the most sophisticated, cruel and lucrative form of child abuse, media violence. 

The effects of media violence can be long-lasting and extremely damaging. Legislation to protect children will only succeed and spread with the help of civil society. North America has experienced well over 20 promising practices that need to be known so that organisations around the world can join forces to stop the use of violence in the media to abuse children.
