Programme goal

Youth Outreach Programme (YOP)

is a Non-Governmental, Non-Profit making organisation that aims
at advancing the education and training of young people in their
appreciation and knowledge of life with a view to creating a
greater interest in their pursuit and also to create a better
realisation of the duties and responsibilities of citizenship.

Impact Results

I) Increase standard of living and improve quality of life amongst
youths especially those in rural areas.
2)Increase participation and influence of young people within
mainstream society.

Legitimacy

Youth Outreach Programme is registered under law No 90/053 of
decembe 1990 and holds registration N0 58/RDDA/C19/BAPP
issued on April 29, 1993. YOP works closely with the Ministry of
Youth and Sports as well as other government agencies in
Cameroon.

Members

The members of YOP are: Youth groups, clubs, schools,
individuals engaged in promoting youth activities & organisations
that have the same philosophy.

Structure

The structure of YOP is made of: Members, Board of Directors,
Advisory Committees, Programme Coordinator and
Volunteers.

Partners

YOP enjoys membership with Youth For Development and
Cooperation-The Netherlands and works closely with American
Peace Corps Volunteers, Women's Information and Coordination
Office (WICO) Cameroon, Comite Camerounaise de Droit des
Enfants (COCADE), Government agencies and donor organisation.

Funding

The activities of YOP are funded by development agencies, NGOs
and from funds raised through its activities. To date YOP has
received funds from Melvetas -Cameroon, International Women's
Club, Reynolds Elementary School, Mentor-Ohio

Activities

1) AIDS/STD Education through workshops; surveys; publications
which are distributed FREE to school, public libraries and youth
groups, distribution of condoms and organising public campaigns
such as caravans and Race Against AIDS (RAIDS)

2) Environmental Education: YOP has organised the planting of
over 2000 trees with urban communities by young people and
sponsored an International exhibition ofpainting on the theme
"Nature is Beautiful" by children.

3) Human Rights Education: Through workshops and lectures.

New programme for 1998

1) Rural Youth Project: This project targets young people living in
rural areas and will educate them to develop skills in leadership
and management
(2) identify their problems and participate in providing solutions
(3) train young people in income-generating projects such as fish
farming and market gardening

2) Production of Low Cost Building Materials: To curb
unemployment amongst young people YOP is seeking fuds to
start the production of low-cost building materials such as
compressed earth bricks and roofing tiles.

This project if successfiil will provide employment to at least 100
youths within the year as well as low cost material for the
construction of houses and schools within rural communities.
