Children's Ombudsperson

The National Human Rights Commission Act 1995 set up a Commission (NHRC) for the monitoring of human rights in Nigeria. Within the remit of the NHRC is a Special Rapporteur on Child Rights with a mandate to monitor and collect data on violations of children's rights within the state. The Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed concern, however, about the level of human and financial resources available to the Special Rapporteur, as well as the lack of information provided by Nigeria on the independence and activities of the NHRC.
