Summary: Information about institutions in Myanmar that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The National Human Rights Commission was established in October 2011 and includes a division for children's rights. However, in its 2012 Concluding Observations, the Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed concern at the absence of a law establishing the Commission; the appointment of Government and former Government officials to the Commission; the lack of financial resources necessary to ensure the independence and efficiency of the Commission; and the lack of visibility of the division for children's rights. The Committee urged the State to adopt a law establishing an independent human rights institution in compliance with the Paris Principles with a division dedicated to children's rights headed by a Commissioner for Children.
