LATVIA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Latvia that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson/Commissioner

The Latvian National Human Rights Office established a Section for the Protection of the Rights of the Child in 2003, which handles complaints relating to violations of children's rights. While this was intended to broaden the protection of children's rights across the country, the Committee on the Rights of the Child has also recommended that Latvia establish an independent institution with sufficient resources to monitor the implementation of children's rights.
