**Stocktaking**
'Stocktaking' is what is happening at a meeting this week, according to one NGO.
"If somebody told you to expect a lot of "stocktaking" at a meeting, what would you think they meant? If you've ever worked in a restaurant, you might plan to show up and count ketchup bottles. Or if you've come from the grocery store, you might come with a list and be prepared to take an inventory of things in the room. What you might not be expecting is a detailed review of a project, which is how NGOs sometimes use stocktaking.
Try to avoid using stocktaking in your work - its meaning can be confusing, and there are many other words that more clearly get the message across.
Suggestions for alternatives: review, take stock of, consider, assess.
