Summary: Information about institutions in Guyana that monitor children's rights.
Children's Ombudsperson In its Concluding Observations of 2013, the Committee on the Rights of the Child welcomed the establishment of the Child Commission as well as that of the Parliamentary Sectoral Committee on Social Services. The Committee expressed concern, however, that the Rights of the Child Commission did not have a fully functional complaints mechanism for children, and had only dealt with a limited number of direct complaints as of 2013. The limited independence of the Commission was also a source of concern. The Committee urged the State to address these deficits in the national human rights mechanisms to ensure that the Rights of the Child Commission is able to investigate and address complaints of children in a child-sensitive manner, ensure the privacy and protection of victims and undertake monitoring, follow-up and verify child rights activities.
