GHANA: Children's Ombudsperson

Summary: Information about institutions in Ghana that monitor children's rights.

Children's Ombudsperson

The Ghana Commission of Human Rights and Administrative Justice (CHRAJ) works in areas relating to children's rights, and the Committee on the Rights of the Child has expressed appreciation for its work to prevent child neglect and female genital mutilation. However, the Committee has also noted with regret the abolition of a specific department to deal with children's rights issues, and has recommended that Ghana consider re-establishing a department within the CHRAJ to deal specifically with children's rights, providing it with sufficient financial and human resources to fulfil this role.
