EGYPT: Violence against children during the 2nd half of 2008

[15 March 2009] Land Center for Human Rights issued a content analysis on violence against children cases mentioned in a number of Egyptian newspapers concerning, throughout the second half of 2008.

The report finds that the total number of crimes of violence led to death committed against children -during the last six months of 2008- is 352 cases, of all of the 664 cases of violence against children in different social groups, and were in the press.

Crimes of violence against children survyed were as follow: Sexual abuse of children outside or within the family and school amounted (58) cases; physical assaults on children (6) cases; domestic violence (37) cases; the total cases of neglect in the social and health care, education and food (159) cases; exploitation of children (3) cases, state's violence (6) cases, children murdered (19) case, child abduction (9) cases, road accidents and other miscellaneous incidents that do not fall under any of the previous divisions (57) case.
