The August September 2007 issue of Children Speak deals with education – one of the eight Millennium Development Goals set by the United Nations to achieve universal primary education for all by 2015. The article examines the disparities in educational standards, for although countries may have made progress in the number of school going children, the quality of education for the have's and the have-nots varies to a great extent creating a unhealthy class society. The Issue also examines the pressures imposed on the students in the present exam-based evaluation systems in schools the world over. Children Speak is published every two months to communicate current news and insights, as part of a continuing effort to promote greater awareness on major themes and critical issues of timely significance for children's rights worldwide. Children Speak also aims to encourage the exchange of information and the development of networks between all individuals and organisations committed to improving the situation of children and promoting children's rights everywhere. Feel free to contribute by sending (at [email protected] and/or [email protected]) any news, comments, suggestions, action plans taken up by your organisation, views and stories pertaining to the rights and well-being of children in your region or at large.
