DRC: Key priorities for children associated with armed forces and groups

This briefing was presented in advance of the UN Security Council Working Group on children and armed conflict’s consideration of the second country report on children and armed conflict in the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC).

It complemented presentations by members of the DRC Coalition to Stop the Use of Child Soldiers (DRC Coalition) during a meeting with members of the Working Group on 17 July 2007. The briefing highlights current priority issues in the DRC.

These include: ending child recruitment by armed forces and groups, effective action to end impunity for child recruitment as well as rape and other sexual violence against girls associated with armed forces and groups, revitalising reintegration programs and assuring the rights of former child soldiers arrested, detained or tried within the national justice system.
