Draft African Youth Charter Adopted

[ADDIS ABABA, Ethiopia, May 24] - The draft African Youth Charter has been adopted at the Pan-African Youth Forum (PYU) which was held in Addis Ababa from 22 - 24 May 2006 by young people representing member states of the African Union.

One of the key resolutions of the meeting is to alter the membership of the PYU to national youth councils representing all member states of the African Union.

The meeting resolved to popularise the African Youth Charter throughout the continent to youth, governments and the African community at large. The draft will now proceed to the African Union meeting of Experts on Youth on May 26 and to the African Ministers of Youth meeting on May 28.
