CYPRUS: Child commissioner launches website

The office of the Commissioner for Protection of the Rights of the Child in Cyprus has set up a special website to encourage more contact with the public.

Rights of the Child Commissioner Leda Koursoumba said her office expected to have frequent contact with the public through the interactive website, which also sets down the principles on children’s rights.

The website is in Greek and English.

Koursoumba said the website “gives me an opportunity to be informed on all matters that concern children but also to get their views on various issues dealt with in my office.”

The motto of her office is "Children have a voice”.

The website, which went online yesterday at www.childcom.org.cy will be officially launched next month.

“I will be available to every child, or any adult and look forward with pleasure to having contact with them,” said Koursoumba.

She said her mission was that protection and promotion of children's rights would become a reality for every child living in Cyprus.

“To make this possible, every adult and every child needs to know and assert the rights of the child,” she added.
