Summary: The role of adoption agencies in poor countries as facilitators of child trafficking needs to be examined more carefully. The onus for the safety of the children lies with both the sender and the receiver countries. This paper aims to highlight some of the possible risks involved for the children who are not monitored after being sent to a foreign nation. It focuses on the Indian inter-country adoption procedure and examines the need for modifying current welfare policies and legislation.
