Although many will argue that a child must be born before being abused, there are several cases of intra-uterine abuse of children. The case of this little boy is a typical example. The Anti Child Abuse Society of Africa (ACASA) as part of her 13th Anniversary program visited a Motherless babies home in Abuja Nigeria to present gifts and also help resolve several domestic and environmental challenges facing the centre - The Anawin Motherless Babies home (also called The Poorest of the Poor). Among the children in the home was a two months old boy, who was rescued from her mother while she was attempting to suffocate the child after delivery. Although the child’s life was preserved, the consequences of his mother action pre-delivery may live with him for the rest of his life. His mother was said to be a final year student in one of the national universities. She was said to have tried all manner of medications to abort the child, but when these failed (as she was afraid of illegal abortion), she decided to kill the child at birth. The diverse medications she took while pregnant resulting in several congenital malformations. These include undescended testis, severe talipes of both limbs and abdominal muscles agenesis. It was claimed that unless operations were carried out early enough, recovery from these congenital problems maybe difficult if not impossible. This child will have to live with the consequences of this abuse for most of his adult life.
