[10 June 2011] - SRSG Coomaraswamy to visit Chad to sign an Action Plan for the release of Children associated with the Chadian National Army and Security Forces 12 - 16 June 2011: The Chadian Government has prepared an action plan to end the recruitment and use of children. This action plan, seeks to ensure the full demobilization of children from the Chadian National Army (ANT) and associated forces, and to establish mechanisms to monitor and prevent the recruitment and use of children in the future. Chad is one of only six governments listed by the Secretary-General for violations against children in armed conflict. In N’Djamena, SRSG Coomaraswamy will meet with the Government, UN agencies, civil society, the diplomatic community and children who have been demobilized from armed forces and groups. She will also visit conflict-affected areas in Eastern Chad where she will meet with local communities, refugees from Darfur including children, local leaders, and the Chad-Sudan Joint Security Force.
