PALESTINE: Child sentenced to 14 months in Israeli prisons

Summary: A 14-year-old boy has been sentenced to 14 months in prison for allegedly engaging in resistance actions against Israeli soldiers.

[WEST BANK, 4 May 2011] - Israel occupation authorities on Tuesday sentenced a Palestinian child known as Yazan Jamal Dandan, 14,  to 14 months inside Israeli jails. The child was accused of participating in resistance actions against Israeli soldiers.

According to the Palestinian prisoner’s club, the court also enforced his father to pay a fine estimated with 2000 shekels.

Yazan’s father pointed out that he was prevented from seeing his child after the announcement.

He appealed all human rights institutions and international committees of the red cross to urgently intervene to release  Yazan, who has been detained since April 11, 2010 in the Israeli Ramonim jail.

It’s noteworthy that Palestinian child prisoners  inside Israeli jails are subjected to different types of torture and physical beatings.
