The Greek Ombudsman submits alternative report to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child


Findings and recommendations of the Independent Authority on the implementation of children’s rights in Greece

The Greek Ombudsman submitted to the UN Committee on the Rights of the Child a Parallel Report on the implementation of the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child in Greece from 2003 to 2011 summarizing his findings and recommendations. Since 2003, the Ombudsman has investigated in this field 3248 complaints, has conducted 382 meetings with groups of children, 112 visits to care institutions and young offenders’ detention centres and has participated in many meetings, committees, seminars and conferences. The report was submitted on the occasion of the review of the second and the third National Report of Greece on the Implementation of the Convention, hold in Geneva on June 6, 2012 (60th Session of the Committee on the Rights of the Child), which was also attended by the Deputy Ombudsman for Children’s Rights, George Moschos.
