[23 November 2007] - Child abusers or people involved in underage pornography and sex tourism will face up to 10 years in jail and fines of as much as 500,000 euros, according to a bill tabled in the Greek Parliament. The draft law will bring Greece in line with European Union legislation and for the first time makes it a crime to take a trip to another country with the specific purpose of having sex with a minor. People who organise these kinds of trips on behalf of others will also face punishment under the new law. In both cases, those found guilty face up to 10 years in jail. Anyone abusing a child under 15 could also spend up to a decade in prison. They could additionally be fined up to 500,000 euros. People distributing child pornography over the Internet face fines of up to 300,000 euros as well as a jail sentence. The new law will make taking or storing indecent images of minors a criminal offence, regardless of whether there is intent to sell the pictures. Further information
