Events organised by the Association of Network for Community Empowerment on Child Labour Free Week and Universal Children's Day

ANCE (Association of Network for Community Empowerment) is working for the rights of children and the elimination of child labour in Pakistan. ANCE is currently running Education and Technical Training centres for Working Children in different localities of Lahore. These centres are providing education, technical training, recreation and health services to them and their families. Apart from these services, the organisation also conducts different awareness programmes on the rights of children.

ANCE organised different events and activities to celebrate child labour free week from 13th to 20th November in Lahore. Speech and Quiz Competitions were held to create awareness about the rights of children among non formal working children schools and formal schools. The participants of the programme were students, children, parents and community representatives. Children delivered speeches on "Child Rights", "Prevention of Child Abuse" and "Child Labour". It was a very healthy mental exercise for children as they learned about these topics and shared there views with audiences.

On 14th November, a speech and quiz competition was held among children at the Education and Technical Training Centre for Working Children, Kotlakhpat, Prince Model School and Anmol Education School.

On 20th November, SPORT MELA is to be held on the occasion of Universal Children's Day for working children and their families. Games and entertainment is the basic right of a child but working children are deprived of this right. This programme will provide them with a chance to actively participate in different sorts of games and compete with each other. Six working children schools will participate in this event. Some of the local private schools are also invited to watch the participation and performance of working children. Working children will take part in sack races, spoon races, rely races, frog races, three legs races, jumping rope contests, hurdle races, tugs of war etc. Painting and song competitions will also be organised among children. Prizes will also be distributed among winning participants.

At the end of this programme a rally is planned, to which almost 3000 working children will participate to raise voice for their rights.
