Summary: EURONET, the European Children’s Network, has just published a report analysing the impact on children of the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe. The report is entitled "Analysis of the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe: The Impact on Children".
The report, entitled "Analysis of the Treaty Establishing a Constitution for Europe: The Impact on Children", provides a detailed assessment of the articles which are likely to impact on children. The analysis is based on the document agreed by the Conference of Representatives of the Governments of the European Union (EU) Member States on 29th October 2004. The report analyses each article relevant to child rights and provides comments on them. EURONET welcomes the new references to children’s rights in the Treaty establishing a Constitution for Europe. In particular, the inclusion of children’s rights in the internal and external objectives of the Constitution and the inclusion of the EU Charter of fundamental rights strengthen the rights of the child. EURONET, the European Children’s Network, has campaigned for the inclusion of children’s rights in the European Treaties since 1995. EURONET’s campaign gained the active support of the European Convention, which included members of the European Parliament, Government Ministers, former Heads of State and Commission officials, who prepared the draft Constitution for Europe.
