Child-Led Child Trafficking Campaign in Africa

A campaign fighting against 'early exodus and child trafficking' in Africa, led by the working children's network 'The African Movement of Working Children and Youth', has had some early successes.

A recent meeting evaluating the success of the campaign brought together 28 children and young people from 8 countries. Among the results found were that nearly 1,000 talks and debates on child trafficking had been organized by local groups. Some individual successes were also discussed, among them the identification of a network of child traffickers on the border between Benin and Nigeria. Among the imaginative publicity campaigns that were organized are football matches and village meetings.

The next challenges identified for the group to follow were: more work on the dissemination of information, especially at country borders, training for children and young people, support, training and employment for victims and advocacy work in villages.
